Burkholderia pseudomallei GeneDB |
|
|
The Sanger Institute has been funded to sequence the genome of Burkholderia pseudomallei in collaboration with Dr. Rick Titball of the Defence Evaluation Research Agency, Porton Down, and Dr. Ty Pitt of the Central Public Health Laboratory. We will sequence strain K96243, a clinical isolate from Thailand, supplied by Dr. S. Songsivilai of Mahidol University. Burkholderia pseudomallei (previously called Pseudomonas pseudomallei) is the causative agent of melioidosis, a serious disease of man and animals that occurs primarily in S.E. Asia, N. Australia and other tropical areas. There is no licensed vaccine against meliodosis, and the bacterium is resistant to many antibiotics. The sequence is now finished, and is available for download from
our FTP
site.
See the B. pseudomallei project pages for more information. |
