The Sanger Institute has been funded by The Scottish Office (SEERAD) to sequence the genome of Chlamydophila abortus strain S26/3, in collaboration with Dr. Ian Toth of the Scottish Crop Research Institute, and Dr. David Longbottom of the Moredun Research Institute.

Chlamydophila abortus is an obligate intracellular pathogen, causing chlamydial abortion of sheep, and representing a significant zoonotic threat to pregnant women.

The genome is 1,144,377 bp with a G+C content of 39.9%.

Please address all enquiries to Nicholas Thomson (nrt@sanger.ac.uk).
