The Gene Naming/Nomenclature Committee has been set up to oversee the introduction and use of consistent nomenclature for three of the Kinetoplastid species, Leishmania, Trypanosoma brucei and Trypanosoma cruzi.
The introduction and usage, as well as the (re-)assignment of systematic convention following gene names is co-ordinated by the four sequencing centres (Karolinska Institute, Sweden; Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, USA; The Institute for Genomic Research, USA and The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK) and overseen by a community appointed gene naming committee (GNC).
The gene naming committee members are:
Christine Clayton, (co-ordinator)
Najib El-Sayed, TIGR
Peter Myler, SBRI
This interactive website is designed:
to outline the naming convention/guidelines as drawn up by Clayton et al. (Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology 97: 221-224) (click here to view a reprint of the paper in PDF format, reproduced with permission).
for users to browse existing gene names following the agreed convention
